A day in my life: Thursday December 3rd 2009

2009/12/03 at 9:33 PM (Food, Personal life, Running) (, , , )

Thoughts:

Syl and Tamara asked about the new dress, today I received another one by mail so I show them both. Both are too tight around the waist right now so I have to lose some more weight so they fit well but I want to wear them so that’s a good motivation.

The movie was great, very emotional. I cried a lot especially at the end but almost everybody else in the cinema did.

Tomorrow I have a date with R. We’re going to the theatre. We’re going to see a musical: Joseph and the amazing dreamcoat. I’ve seen it last year in December with K. but it’s such a feel good musical and I think R. will like it too so I bought us tickets for his birthday. Here’s a trailer of the musical.

Exercise:
Yesterday after cleaning my house I decided to run before lunch. I wasn’t completely well but thought I’d give it a try for a short run. I ran 4.5 K/2.8 miles in 30.31. When I entered that on my Dutch site only for running times I was surprised to see this was my fastest run ever: 8.8/km.  Yeah!

Today no exercise, I was late again from work.

What’s for dinner:
Yesterday I had dinner at my friend K’s house. Her husband cooked for us and it was delicious. Tenderloin with lots of vegetables and rice. As K. reads my blog I want to compliment the chef again for this delicious meal. Thanks M.!

Today I was in a hurry so we ate a simple pasta.

The Ultimate Diet Log:

Nutrition shocker: The average American adult weighed nearly 25 pounds more in 2002 than in 1960 but was only 1 inch taller, according to the National Center for Health Statistics.

Positive today:
And another great dress which still is too small which makes 2 dresses to keep me motivated.

A day in my life: Tuesday December 1st 2009

2009/12/01 at 8:54 PM (Food, Personal life, Weight watchers) (, , , )

Thoughts:
As I wasn’t feeling well yesterday and skipped my workout I decided to drive to a Weight Watchers meeting nearby. I wanted to buy the grocery book which contains points of 1,000 of products. While I was there I also bought a book which has 365 days with mealplans in it. I intend to use their suggestions as much as possible for mostly breakfast, lunch and snacks.

I saw the leader and went up to her and asked her if she knew when the program would be available online (as if I didn’t know already) and she said by the end of this week or next week. So I put on my sad face and said that I would try to follow the program till then on my own.

She said that in that case she would calculate how many points I could have and that she would give me the program for the first week. I said to her that that was very nice of her. So I could study the program Monday night and as of yesterday I’m officially back at the WW. I got 29 points for the day and 49 points to use extra. The program doesn’t look to difficult to me. I’m writing down my food during the day in my diary and calculate the points at the end of the day so I won’t be too  focussed on food.

Tomorrow is my 2-weekly day off, usually it’s Thursday but I’m having a meeting at the office where I need to be so I switched. Time to clean my house and go running in the afternoon.

Tomorrow night I’m going to the movies with my friend K. and her husband, they invited me over for dinner before we go and I’m really looking forward to it.

The movie is a Dutch one called “Komt een vrouw bij de dokter”, free translation: “A woman visits the doctor”. It’s based on a true story of a man who’s wife’s got breast cancer. Instead of sticking by her side he totally loses it in going out and having an affair. In the end the wife dies (at the end he stands by her side) and till today he is still with the woman he had the affair with. When I read the book I cried all the time, it was so sad. So I’m bringing lots of tissues because I’m going to need them. Here’s the trailer, it’s in Dutch but you will get an impression of the movie.

Exercise:
I haven’t worked out in three days now. I’m having terrible headaches since Sunday. They will pass away I have them every now and then but exercising hurts my head too much now.

What’s for dinner:
Sunday we had some chicken soup.

Yesterday carrots, onions, potatoes with sausage called Hutspot in Dutch.

Today I made a stew of pork meat, potatoes, mushrooms and cherry tomatoes.

The Ultimate Diet Log:

Research report: Fiber in breads, cereals and other grains may cut the risk of diabetes. In one study, researchers found a 30 percent lower risk of diabetes in people who reported eating 17 grams per day compared to those who averaged 7 grams a day.

Positive today:
Bought a beautiful dress on Ebay but have to work of a few more pounds before it fits well. So there’s work to do.

A day in my life: Sunday November 15th 2009

2009/11/15 at 8:22 PM (Food, Personal life, Running) (, , , , )

Health week 46:

Goal 1 (lose weight every week):
Weight result November 12th: No gain and no loss: stayed the same.

Goal 2 (eat healthy every day):
Monday: Purple day (did exercise, not so healthy in eating department)
Tuesday: Purple (no exercise, eating healthy)
Wednesday: Purple (no exercise, eating healthy)
Thursday: Orange (no exercise, eating not to healthy)
Friday: Purple (no exercise, eating healthy)
Saturday:  Purple (did exercise, eating not to healthy)
Sunday: Purple (no exercise, eating healthy)

Goal 3 (work-out 5 times a week):
Monday: Matt Roberts weight loss plan, week 3, training 2
Tuesday: -Wednesday: -
Thursday: -
Friday:  -
Saturday: 6K run
Sunday: -

I have worked out these goals in writing and hang it up next to my computer in my “office” at home. This way I can look at it every day and remind myself of my goals.

Starting Monday I will write down everything I eat for the next 6 months. Within these 6 months I should reach my goal weight. For this purpose I bought a Diet log online. Here’s how a page and a weekly summary page look like. I’ve checked and for those of you who are interested: you can buy it at Amazon.com. Even though I’m going to write everything down this doesn’t mean I’m going to count calories or diet. It’s a tool for me to evaluate every week where I went wrong and where I did great where it comes to healthy eating.

The diary also has space to write down your goals for the week and you can add a daily goal.

Goals week 47:
1)       Don’t have a dessert at the 2 dinners out I have this week.
2)       Eat only 1 piece of pie at R.’s birthday.
3)       Workout 5 times

Exercise:
I did go for a run yesterday afternoon. There was a lot of strong wind but it was dry and sometimes even sunny. It was lovely to run outside. I ran 6K and during my run I didn’t think I was very fast (also due to the wind) but when I finished and looked at my watch it seemed I’ve beaten my own PR on the 6K with 30 seconds to 43.31 so I was very happy.

Didn’t do anything today so this makes that I’ve had only 2 workouts this week. Well what’s done is done and I probably needed some rest. Next week I’ll just pick it up again, starting by going to the gym tomorrow.

What’s for dinner:
Yesterday we ate bread and I’ve made a toasted ham and cheese sandwich.

Sunday smoothie:
Pineapple, blueberries, pineapple juice and low fat yoghurt.

Today a simple dinner of mushroom soup with bread.

Thoughts:
Some of you asked if I’m hooked to Starbucks now. And even though I love the coffee I’m still hooked to my espresso machine at home which makes great coffee too.

Yesterday evening we went to visit very good friends of ours, another couple (she is one of my best friends) were there too, and it was a very pleasant evening with laughter, talking and drinking wine.
I knew before it was getting late that’s why I took my run Saturday afternoon and it was late. I was in bed at 2.30 am.

I slept in till 9.30 which is very late for me to get up and had a nice relaxing day at home. Next week is going to be busy with two dinners, a meeting outside the office and R.’s birthday coming up so I could use a day of rest in advance.

Did you all have a great weekend?

A day in my life: Friday November 13 2009

2009/11/13 at 8:41 PM (Food, Personal life) (, , )

Exercise:

THIS IS A BAD, BAD WEEK SO FAR!

I have had 1 work-out this week so far. Excuses? Too tired and not feeling well but those shouldn’t be excuses. It’s been a while since I had so little exercise in one week and I feeling guilty towards myself. I will and need to run this weekend, hopefully tomorrow and then do Shred on Sunday so I can make up a little for this week.

At least I didn’t gain weight this week, didn’t lose any either but for this week that’s fine.

What’s for dinner:
Yesterday I had a dinner date with one of my best friends K. For starter I’ve had chicken with teriyaki sauce and some vegetables.

Main course was a salad with tenderloin. Both were delicious.

Thoughts:
The surgery on my friend Y. went well, she’s got to go home a few hours after surgery and still has a lot of pain but at least she can rest at home.

Yesterday I had my dinner date with K. We work together and go out for dinner at least twice a year. She’s also my running buddy for runs and we go to at least 1 musical a year together. She’s one of the nicest persons you could ever meet and I’m happy she’s my friend.

After dinner we were at the train station and what catched my eye? STARBUCKS!

In Holland we have two Starbucks stores, one on the airport and one on the train station where we were yesterday. So after reading so much on your blogs about Starbucks I had to had one of course and it was a café latte vanillia: delicious. So it’s a fact: I’ve had my first Starbucks ever.

I’ve told you that a lot of my clothes are getting too big so I’m looking on Ebay to buy a smaller size for a cheap price and last week I found a dress for less than 10 dollar in a smaller size. I’ve worn it yesterday to work and I’ve never had more compliments about my clothes than yesterday. Even before I’ve got the compliments I already felt great in this dress: it fits me perfectly.

I’m OK, I’m alright

One day (someday) I’m gonna be free, Lord!

Find me somebody to love

Positive today:
It’s weekend!

A day in my life: Tuesday October 27 2009

2009/10/27 at 7:42 PM (Food, Personal life, Work-outs) (, , , , )

Exercise:
Yesterday after work again to the gym for the Matt Roberts plan: week 2, training 3.
Today no exercise.

I’ve changed my work-out plan a bit. Since work is so busy and will be till somewhere next year I find it hard to go to the gym three times a week. So I’ve decided to go running twice a week, go to the gym twice a week and do 1 home work-out every week.

For my running I’m going to try something else. In the odd weeks I will do speedwork on a weekday, in the even week on my day off I will run 5K, next week 6K and the week after that 7K and then start from the beginning.

In weekends I will do a 8K, then 9K and then 10K and start that also all over again. I’ve made routes last night so I have different routes every time. I hope this makes me faster eventually by changing the distance every time.

Next Sunday I have a 6K run. It’s in the woods which I don’t have where I live so I’m looking forward to that. It has also some hills which will be the first time for me. My mom is coming with me, she wants to see me running.

What’s for dinner:
Sunday the high tea, we had also sandwiches and quiches, mini pizza’s but I forgot to take pictures of that because we were talking so much.

Yesterday we ate spaghetti carbonara.

And today … ai … look for yourself. I was so tired when I went home so I choose take away food.

Thoughts:

The high tea was great, we laughed, we talked and we had delicious things to eat.

Tonight I’m going to have my nails done, I do that every 4 weeks.

Tomorrow I’m out of the office. We’re having a day with presentations for our suppliers. I didn’t have to organize this one, my colleague did that but I do have to help her. These days are very tiring but usually fun too because it’s something different than doing the regular stuff at the office.

I hope I have enough energy left to do a speedwork training tomorrow night, if not I will do that Friday.

Itunes shuffle playing right now:
4 Non Blondes – What’s up

This song is special to me, first sentence: “25 years and my is still trying to get up that great big hill of hope for a destination”. When I first heard this song I was 25 years old and in a car somewhere between LA and San Francisco while I was there for a holiday all alone far from home and R. whom I’ve met just a few months before.

Positive today:
Worked really hard but went home satisfied with the work I’ve done.

A day in my life: Sunday October 25 2009

2009/10/25 at 1:51 PM (Food, Personal life, Running, Work-outs) (, , , , )

Exercise:
Yesterday I went for a run, had no goal so I just started and did 6.29K/3.9 miles in 46 minutes.

It was dry but before and after my run it was raining so my timing was perfect. I love running in Autumn because I don’t like running in hot weather.

My new tights arrived in the mail yesterday so I could try them out and they fit perfectly!

I found some fun races to participate in. First there is the “Third Christmas day” run. In Holland Christmas is celebrated for 2 days. This run is the day after that: great way to burn the calories of Christmas.

Then I found one that is on December 31, the “Sylvester cross”.

And one next year which is for woman only, men are not allowed to participate. It’s called the “Marikenloop”. And finally a run across a circuit where normally car races are held.

I don’t know if I will participate in all of them but I think I will do the one on December 31. For me that’s a great way to close a year in which I finally started living healthy and exercising.

This morning I went to the gym for my Matt Roberts training. Gym opens at 9 am on Sunday so I was there at 9 am sharp. But it was busy! I got to do my running, my biking and my strength exercises but then I had to do 10 minutes on the elliptical: they were all occupied! So I did my last exercise: crunches first and checked again after that: still busy. I hate it when that happens. So I skipped this one and did my cooling down exercises. While doing that I saw the rowing machine and said to myself I will do that next time if something else is not available.

What’s for dinner:
I didn’t make pictures of the buffet Friday night.

Yesterday I made a sandwich of rocket salad, carpaccio, pesto and some old cheese. Delicious!

Thoughts:
The party Friday night wasn’t much fun. There was no atmosphere. The band wasn’t very good. And as we have a law against smoking in public buildings everybody had to go outside if they wanted to smoke and as a lot of the people there smoked it seemed more like the party was outside.

The food was very good, I had a little plated with some meat and French fries and a little plate with dessert. I drank only 2 glasses of wine since I was the one to drive home. We were home at midnight.

This afternoon I’m meeting 5 friends for a high tea. We all met on the woman’s forum I write on and every now and then we meet in real life. None of them lives really close by but I “talk” to them every day at the forum. I’m really looking forward because their great and fun women!

Itunes shuffle playing right now:
Rod Stewart – I’ll stand by you

Positive today:
Went to the gym to burn calories before high tea this afternoon with lovely friends.

A day in my life: Friday October 2nd 2009

2009/10/02 at 3:15 PM (Food, Personal life, Running, Work-outs) (, , , , , )

Health:
Not much to tell in the health department: all is going well. Had a great weight loss this week, more than what’s normal for me, so I was very happy with the result.

Exercise:
Wednesday after work I went for a run of 33 minutes and ran 4.49K/2.8 miles.

My September goal was to run 85K/53 miles. I didn’t get there completely. I ran 75K/46.6 miles.

I’m not setting any goals for miles for the rest of the winter as I will be running only twice a week now instead of three times.

This morning I went out for a run at 8 am and ran 44 minutes (5.94K/3.7 miles).

When I got home I took about 15 minutes rest and started with level 1, day 1 of the 30 Day Shred.
This is going to be my focus for October.

I didn’t think it was all that difficult or hard and I liked doing it. I don’t know if I’m going to say the same thing tomorrow when my legs might be hurting :)

What’s for dinner:
Wednesday night I made beef stroganoff with mashed potatoes.

Yesterday was my tapas night with my two colleagues/friends, it was delicious.

For starters some bread with aïlo and tapenade.

We ordered twice for some plates as you can see.

Thoughts:
Yesterday after work I went for tapas as said before with K. and W. Don’t mind me: I was still talking when they took the picture

We had a really good time, talked a lot and laughed a lot. It’s always nice to spend some time with friends, it’s make life much more beautiful.

Today I took a vacation day so I did my workouts this morning and my groceries. I just got back from my hairdresser. I’ve had a haircut and I colored it about two tones darker.
This evening we’re going to visit my mom.

Positive today:
Two workouts in 1 day.

A day in my life: Sunday September 6th 2009

2009/09/06 at 1:55 PM (Personal life, Running) (, , )

Health:
Eating goes well. Only thing that didn’t go well: I was late Friday night and did my grocery shopping after work including the ingredients for my dinner. When I got home I discovered I had forgotten one of the most important ingredients for my recipe and since I didn’t feel like going to the supermarket again I took the easy way and ate the same as R.: unhealthy snack food.

Exercise:
Thursday night I cleaned my kitchen and living room so I wouldn’t have to do that on Saturday.

Friday was a day of rest.

Yesterday it finally was there: my last long run from my 10K program, 1 hour and 10 minutes.

I left about 10.15 am, before that it was raining very hard. When I got outside it rained a little bit but that didn’t bother me. So there I started running. After about 30 minutes it started to rain extremely hard for about 5 minutes with lots of wind but I kept running (walking would taken even longer to get home). When the rain stopped I was wet up to my string but I thought since I was already soaking wet I could go on anyway. And I did. After about 45 minutes another 5 minutes of very hard rain but still kept going. About ¾ of my run I had very strong wind up front or at my side. The last part of my route I had the wind in my back and it felt like I was flying. Then my “teacher” said I was done, my 1 hour and 10 minutes were over but I saw “the finish line”. I knew that if I stopped there I would have run 9.4K so I kept on going. Right at the time I heard Gloria Gaynor’s I will survive on my ipod and since there was no one else stupid enough to go running in this weather I was all alone and I shouted out loud with her: I will survive! And guess what: I did! I ran 9.4K in 1.14 and I’m so proud of myself that I did that!

Today is a day of rest since I ran so far yesterday and danced atthe party yesterday night.

What’s for dinner:
No pictures of dinner today since it wasn’t all that special the last couple of days.

Thoughts:
A friend of mine and her husband were throwing a birthday party last night in Rotterdam which is about an hour drive from my home. I went there with another friend of mine M. She came by train and I’ve picked her up at the station. We had dinner at my house and then drove to Rotterdam. After checking in in the hotel we changed our clothes since the party was a seventies party.

This is me in our hotelroom:

The party was great, lots of fun people and only seventies disco music so we danced, chatted and drank.

Me, my friend M and boyfriend of another friend of ours:

Me and a friend:

We left the party at 2 am and were glad we didn’t have to drive all the way home. We went to bed about 3 am and were awake around 8 am so that’s 5 hours of sleep for us. And now this old woman is tired    We had a very good breakfast at the hotel and then went home. I had a great evening.

Positive today:
Nice 70’s party yesterday and good friends!

A day in my life: Tuesday August 25th 2009

2009/08/25 at 3:06 PM (Food, Goals, Personal life, Running) (, , , , )

Health:
I’m eating quiet healthy even though I’m having a vacation. A biscuit or two at the afternoon tea and that’s about it. I do drink a glass Chardonnay every night because that’s kind of holiday spirit for me. Usually I only drink wine in the weekend.

Exercise:
Yesterday I did an interval training. It was though: 10 x 100 meters speed up with 2 minutes jogging in between. I was more tired when I got home then when I ran 1 hour.

Today is a day of rest. Tomorrow evening I’m going to run a 7.5K run with my best friend K.

I’m not nervous because I know I can do it but I do feel a healthy excitement.

What’s for dinner:
Yesterday we ate pasta with bacon, onion, garlic and spinach.

Thoughts:
Don’t have much to tell, my days this holiday pretty much look the same: workout, housekeeping and hobbies. But I’m enjoying it very much.

Next days are going to be busy, from tomorrow night till Sunday night I’m having appointments but there all fun.

Positive today:
A friend of mine send me a card to wish me luck for tomorrow’s run. This was so sweet of her!

A day in my life: Saturday August 8th 2009

2009/08/08 at 7:28 PM (Food, Personal life) (, , , )

Health:
Thursday at the girls night I had too much to eat which shows immediately at the scale.
Yesterday’s dinner wasn’t very healthy but otherwise I’m doing okay.

Exercise:
I haven’t exercised in three days and I’m tired. I believe that is because of no exercising. I have so much more energy on those days. Tomorrow morning I’m going out for a run. Looking forward to it.

What’s for dinner:
Thursday night was tapas at my friend’s house.

Friday I had planned to cook healthy but I was tired and it was hot so I grilled a steak and ate that with French fries.

Today I made a “sandwich” with an hard-boiled egg, avocado, spring onion and some light mayonnaise. Delicious!

Thoughts:
As said before Thursday night I had a great evening with the girls, the sun was shining, the food delicious, the Chardonnay also and the company was great.

Yesterday R. (my lover) had to pick up something he bought on the internet in a village which is an hour drive away. It happens to be that one of my best friends lives there and about 5 minutes from the pickup address. So I’ve joined him and he brought me to my friend while he was picking up his stuff and joined us later for coffee. Usually I don’t go to her just for a cup of coffee but yesterday the opportunity was there. It was great seeing her so unexpectedly.

Positive today was:
Still looking back at a great Thursday and Friday night.
