A day in my life: Thursday January 21th 2010

Thoughts:
I’m so happy: today is my weigh inn day and I’ve lost exactly 10 kg (22 lbs) today since my highest weight ever. A year ago I would not believe I get to this point someday. I have 6 to 9 kg to go so I’m also halfway there.

On the health front it’s boring: still not well. I’m tired of it. I had plans to do a short run this afternoon but I also had to clean my house this morning. When I was finished with that I was so tired and instead of running I fell asleep on the couch. I’m giving myself one more day to get better and go for two runs this weekend on Saturday and Sunday. I miss exercising but I’m just not up to it yet.

I had an appointment with a friend for coffee tonight but I have cancelled that too and we made a new appointment when I’m well again.

Beck’s Diet Solution:

Day 12: Experience that hunger isn’t an emergency
In this chapter Beck wants you to skip a lunch and eat nothing between breakfast and dinner. This is about learning you that you don’t have to be afraid of hunger. I won’t do this task.

I’m not afraid of being hungry and I don’t believe in skipping meals. If I need to I can stand the feeling of hunger, done that in the past sometimes.

Day 13: Conquer your urge to eat
Now this one is interesting for me and I’m going to work on this one. It’s about waiting till the urge to eat goes away and learning to tolerate your urge to eat. This is one of the most important skills I need to learn to lose weight and never to gain again.

She has given some thinking skills and behaviour skills to deal with the urge to eat. So from now on when I want to eat something without being hungry I’m going to use these skills so in the end I won’t eat anymore when I’m not hungry.

The Ultimate Diet Log:

Nutrition shocker: Some deli sandwiches contain 1 pound of meat, about 3 day’s worth of meat recommended by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

By the numbers: 161: Number of chicken wings eaten in 12 minutes, a world record. 49: Number of glazed doughnuts eaten in 8 minutes, also a world record. 128: Ounces of mayonnaise eaten in 8 minutes, another record.

Positive today:
Reached a milestone in my weight loss journey.

Daily Tip/Quote:
The older you get, the tougher it is to lose weight, because by then your body and your fat are really good friends.

  1. Congratulations on all of your weight loss! Love the quote again 🙂

  2. OMG that last number about the mayo made me want to get sick! YUCK! not that the others are any better 🙂

Fran i am confident you will get back at it once you are feeling better, you are not one to let that be an excuse, give your body the time to heal and get better and you will come out stronger!

  3. oh and congrats on the loss – that’s so great Fran!!!

  4. Congrats on all your progress! All that work pays off in the end!

I didn’t like that section of Beck where she has you skip a meal. I am not sure if I am being a wuss about it, but I do not want to get so hungry that I binge, which is what would happen if I skip a meal.

  5. Love that quote! I think I should be reading that book during this process!

I love that quote. Ha! Good friends indeed. Can’t live without each other unfortunately. 😛

  10. Congratulations on your loss!!! Hope you are feeling well enough to get your exercise in this weekend.

  11. I didn’t do that skipping lunch exercise, either, I didn’t think that was such a good idea. Hope you are feeling better very soon… and congratulations on getting MORE than halfway to your goal!

  12. Way to go girl!

  13. Fran, great work on your continued losses. You are really doing good. Doesn’t it feel so good to be so close to your goal?

  14. Hope you feel better soon so u can get back to running!!

  15. Great Job Fran! 22 lbs! wow! Hope you feel better soon and can have a good run or runs over the weekend.

And I’m with you – I don’t like skipping meals. I don’t fast either. I know from experience that the best thing I can do is to keep my blood sugar stable. This REALLY allows me to make good choices consistently. When I get too hungry my blood sugar crashes and I simply can’t make a good choice. I really don’t understand the logic behind fasting or skipping meals.

Oh well, that it my rant for the day. keep up the good work 🙂
