A day in my life: Monday May 3, 2010

Thoughts:
Queen’s Day could better be named “Rain day”. It rained most of the day. R. had a motor race and was away all day. I drove there later in the morning to watch him ride and took Bella with me. But because it was so wet it wasn’t much fun for me to wait there all the time so after a while I went back home. This is a pic of R., it’s not a very good one, he’s the one with the red Ducati.

Our weekend was relaxing, we spent a lot of it at home as we try to make Bella feel as much as comfortable so that she feels at home. She still screams when we go to bed at night but this morning it was the first time we didn’t hear her. We had a dentist appointment together and when we got home she was just lying on the floor and not screaming.

My mom was having her birthday yesterday so we went there. It was nice although the dog of my sister wasn’t too kind for Bella. She tried to bite her a few times so we didn’t sit very comfortable until my sister left. All Bella wanted to do was play … Speaking of playing, here are 2 pics of her playing at home.

Exercise:

Half marathon training week 2 (May 3-May 9):
Tuesday: Climax run, pace 5:57-6:12/km, 100-100-200-200-300-400-600 m, 3 minute breaks.
Wednesday: 30 minute endurance run, pace 6:57-7:12/km with 3 tempo runs of 3 minutes, pace 6:27-6:42/km.
Friday: 20 minute endurance run, pace 6:57-7:12/km.
Saturday:  7 km endurance run, pace 7:12-7:27 /km

My last run was on April 22th so I hadn’t run for more than a week. Yesterday I wanted to go running again and did a short run to get the feeling back and it went great! I’m starting to believe that a week of rest is good for your body. I left in the rain and came home in the rain, I was soaking wet but it didn’t bother me at all. I didn’t watch time or distance, I just ran and it was one of my nicest runs ever.

Stats:
Weather: ± 18 ˚C/64 degrees, rain, not much wind.
Distance: 3.5 K / 2.1 miles
Time: 00:23:29
Average time: 6:43 /km
Average speed: 8.9 km/hour

Goal total km’s/miles week 18:
22.5K / 13.9 miles.
Total week 18:

If you run, you are a runner. It doesn’t matter how fast or how far. It doesn’t matter if today is your first day or if you’ve been running for twenty years. There is no test to pass, no license to earn, no membership card to get. You just run.

  1. good that you could get some rest and get right back at it strong.
I haven’t run since Thursday and I’m itching to get out there – I am hoping to get in a 5k tonight.

Glad that Bella is getting settled in, I bet she makes you so happy. It’s always nice to have someone waiting for you to get home.

Hope you are having a good day Fran

  2. I love the quote first off. Makes me feel better since I am so slow!

I am glad you had a good weekend. The rain is a bummer though. Bella is to cute!

  3. onelittlejill

    Love the quote!!!!

  4. Glad you had a good run. I am really curious as to what it will feel like for me at 4+ weeks off from it (probably not too good would be my guess).

Bella will calm down. Enjoy the puppiness while you can – they grow out of that so fast.

  5. I loved your quote at the bottom. If you run, you are a runner, no matter how fast or slow… I love it! Ohh… and yay for puppy! 🙂

  6. That is such a good quote – I remember you runners telling me that I WAS a runner long before I believed it myself, and that quote is true – if you run, you’re a runner…period. 🙂

Glad to hear a week off did you a world of good with running – sounds like you will be starting your half marathon training off on the right foot (lol)!

Miss Bella is so cute – she must be fun to play with! And she looks very comfortable in her crate, which is wonderful. I’m sure she was shocked at your sister’s dog trying to bite her…she was probably thinking “But I’m so cute, how could you want to hurt me?” (yes I do put words in animal’s mouths, lol)

    Have a great day, Fran!

  7. Bella is darling! I love the quote at the end of your post, it put a smile on my face! Thanks, Fran.

  8. I think a rest is good for the body once in awhile. My BF loves to work out and sometimes I think he overdoes it. Once in awhile it turns out that he can’t exercise for a few days and he always feels better the next time he exercises.

Nice pic of R on the bike and nice pics of Bella!

  9. Hey, do you get the Runner’s World quote of the day emailed to you too because I swear I had that exact quote in my inbox recently. I love it. It’s for all the people who think running is not for them or that it is an elitist sport. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Glad you had a nice run in the rain. A week of rest never hurt anyone!

  10. Thanks for posting this! The quote is awesome! I found my way over here from Lori’s blog, and I am glad I did! COngrats on the run, that sounds like it was hard work! Quick question – which Ducati does R drive?

  11. Bella is so cute! And that quote is absolutely true – all it takes is stepping out the door with some running shoes on and getting started – which is usually the hardest part, don’t you think?

  12. In answer to your question, I do wear my running shoes on the treadmill at the gym – I can imagine that doing an interval in fitness shoes is pretty hard. Perhaps you could designate one pair of running shoes for only using indoors at your gym – or just make sure you clean them really well before going. My gym doesn’t have that rule, but I can understand why yours does – I sometimes see clumps of dirt at the end of the treadmill when someone has done a run in dirty shoes! Hope this helps!

  13. Bella is too cute!

  14. Hi Fran!

I love the last quote! So empowering. 🙂 And when I clicked on your blog tonight, I was so surprised to see the format. It’s lovely and very familiar (I’ve got the same one for my ‘professional/work’ blog…LOL).

Bella is adorable, and YOU have gotten SO FAST! Wow! Your pace has increased so much from last fall! Congrats on that and on finding downtime to be a good break that makes you stronger. Wonderful!

    HUGS from Orlando!

  15. Good for you in running in the rain – I can’t force myself to do it at all, so people that do it are even cooler to me. 🙂

And I love your puppy, she’s adorable!

  16. Bella is such a cutie.

    Love love love the quote.

  17. I love the running quote! It’s so easy to compare when it comes to running, but we really shouldn’t!

I love the photos of Bella! So cute!
