A day in my life: Sunday June 13, 2010

This has been a nice weekend, I’m not tired anymore because I took it easy. Did go for a run yesterday but for the rest stayed at home and relaxed.

Today I’ve been home alone and took Bella for a long walk of 45 minutes, after which she still got energy even though she’s still a puppy. I took Edward, yes that’s right I finally gave my Garmin a name, to see how far I walked. I named my Garmin Edward as I’m a big fan of the Twilight Saga and Edward in particular. As he is a vampire and can run like hell I found it suitable to name my Garmin after him. After I got home I watched “The Proposal”.

I’ve signed in for 2 runs in the fall. The first is in October and it’s in one of our National Parks so it’s in the middle of nature. I think it will be a lot of fun. I signed up for the 10K.

The other one is a 15K race in November and called “Zevenheuvelenloop” free translated as “The 7 hills run”. Yes, you’ve thought right: it’s got 7 hills in it. I have no idea how high they are but one of my colleagues told me this is a fun run and a good one to do while I’m halfway my half marathon training.

I might do a run in July and August that are at night but haven’t decided or signed in for that. And I’m thinking about a night run in November. I think this might be a very special experience. I can’t sign up for it yet so I’ll have some time to think about it.

The water lily’s in our pond are starting to bloom. I love water lily’s.

And it’s time for a weekly picture of our lovely Bella.

Fran’s Summer Challenge:
The challenge is for 12 weeks. Start Monday June 7th and ends on Sunday August 29th.
I’ll update my challenge every week on Sunday or Monday.

  1. Lose some weight every week.
Gained 0.6 kg (1.3 lbs) this week, not sure where this was coming from, eating has been good. So don’t worry to much about it.

    0 out of 12 weeks.
  2. Exercise at least 60 out of 84 days.
    4 out of 60 days
    Monday: 30 minute run.
Tuesday: interval on treadmill, 27 minutes.
    Saturday: 6K run
Sunday: 45 minutes walk with Bella.

  3. Do something active every day (this can be working out, running, housekeeping, walking with Bella, going for a ride on my bike and so on) for at least 30 minutes.
    7 out of 84 days
Monday running. Tuesday running (interval).  Wednesday lots of walking. Thursday housekeeping for 2 hours, Friday walking, Saturday running, Sunday walking with Bella.

  4. Run at least two times while we’re on vacation.
    Result:vacation is in 2 weeks.
  5. Follow the half marathon plan and don’t skip any runs.
    1 out of 12 weeks
Did all 4 trainings but replaced the recovery run with a walk today.

  6. Eat more fruit and vegetables.
Result: Can do better on that, especially on Saturday and Sunday. Weekdays is not a problem.
  7. Try a new recipe at least once a week.
    1 out of 12 weeks
Tried 1 new recipe this week, the salad (see below).

  8. Take Bella to the beach for the first time in her life.
  9. See “Eclipse” (Twilight Saga).
  10. Read at least 6 books before August 29th.
    1. Tess Gerritsen – Life support

I did go for that run on Saturday morning. According to my marathon schedule I had to run 6K (3.7 miles) and I did. The last 2K were tough but I kept running. It was a good run and it felt good to be back at running since I haven’t run this far since April 18th.

After reading so much about protein powder I ordered some online this week and it arrived yesterday. So after my run I made a shake of protein powder with water. The powder has banana flavour. It was very tasty I have to say. Am going to use this after workouts cause according to you, my blogger friends, it seems to help.

Weather: sunny, bit windy, 18 ˚C/64 degrees.
Distance: 6.00 K / 3.7 miles
Time: 00:42:32
Average time: 7:05 /km
Average speed: 8.5 km/hour

Replaced the 20 minute recovery run I had to do this week for a walk of 45 minutes with Bella and counted the miles up to my yearly mileage goal as it was not only for fun but also a workout.

Weather: cloudy, no wind, 18 ˚C/64 degrees.
Distance: 3.25 K / 2 miles
Time: 00:44:40
Average time: 13:25 /km
Average speed: 4.4 km/hour

Movie review:

For three years, Andrew Paxton has slaved as the assistant to Margaret Tate, hard-driving editor at a New York publisher. When Margaret, a Canadian, faces deportation for an expired visa, she hatches a scheme to marry Andrew – he agrees if she’ll promise a promotion. A skeptical INS agent vows to test the couple about each other the next Monday. Andrew had plans to fly home that weekend for his grandma’s 90th, so Margaret goes with him – to Sitka, Alaska – where mom, dad, and grams await. Family dynamics take over: tensions between dad and Andrew, an ex-girlfriend, Andrew’s dislike of Margaret, and her past color the next few days, with the INS ready to charge Andrew with fraud.

I liked this movie, it’s the perfect movie for a Sunday afternoon when you’re home alone. I usually like most movies with Sandra Bullock as most of them are feel good movies.

What’s for dinner:
Yesterday I made a salad with avocado and bacon, it was very tasty.

Today I ate the white asparagus which I got earlier this week with ham and eggs.

And with a glass of Prosecco.

Quote of the day:
I think every human being has a level of melancholy in life and in general.

  1. I remember when I started my half marathon training I started to gain for awhile and then it all started to fall off later!

  2. I liked that movie too. Ryan Reynolds (Canadian!) is no slouch with his shirt off either! 🙂

Sounds like your exercise plans are right on track. Glad you’re having a nice weekend.

  3. Banana protein powder? That is screaming to be made into a smoothie 😀

I love your pond, it is so pretty!
I think a night run would be really cool.

  4. Yay! I found you!

I love The Proposal and Sandra. I could watch her reading from the paper for two hours so anything she’s in is a favorite of mine.

The runs you have scheduled sound great. I love walking in nature!

I have a summer reading list on my main blog…you should link up the books you’re planning to read.

  5. I love protein shakes and lately have been having one for breakfast every work day. I blend it up at home and take it with me. My protein is chocolate and I add a banana, peanut butter and some skim milk. Delicious.

Sometimes I have vanilla instead and then I blend it with pineapple and coconut oil so it tastes like a pina colada.

The white asparagus looks great and so does the salad with avocado and bacon. I have an avocado that will be perfect for Tuesday.

Great job on the run and signing up for more races. The hills race sounds tough.

LOL@Edward for the Garmin. So cute!

Bella is such a sweetie! The water lilies are gorgeous.

Seems like you are not so tired, so that is great news too!

We have Brussels sprouts here all year long, I can’t think of anything that we can’t get all year…as long as we are willing to pay for it…and of course, things that are local and in season taste much better than things coming from halfway around the world.

  6. Glad that you are finally rested up! Your upcoming races sound fun (um, except for that hill one – living in flat ol’ Texas, I would die on those hills!). I would do another night run – they are different and fun (and in my case, insanely cold).

Love that you named your Garmin Edward! I took Ricky Bobby out for his first run today and boy did he make me run fast…hope Edward does that for you, too. 🙂

I love Sandra Bullock movies – haven’t seen the Proposal but I will soon.

Your pond is so pretty – I really love your backyard. And thanks for another picture of Bella…I can never get enough dog pics!

  7. I really liked “The Proposal” too….Sandra Bullock is probably one of my more favorite actresses. 🙂 Great job on the running!

  8. I just started with a new protein powder today too. I bought 6 different sample bags to see which one I like best. Not too sure yet, we’ll see.
It sounds like you had a nice, mellow weekend. I love prosecco with pomegranate juice, yumm!
Have a nice week, Fran. Bella is looking as cute as ever!

  9. I struggled to find protein powder online without Aspartame in it, and the one I bought tastes terrible, cant say anything to hubby about this as I insisted I needed protein powder….LOL.
I cant find any here without Aspartame in them either…soooooo will have to make use of the powder i have…YUCK!

Good to see you got your mojo back and training again…

  10. Sounds like you are back up to speed with your workouts! And Bella is getting big!
Yes, the NVA (Flemish nationalists) won here, but the socialists won in Wallonia so we will see what kind of a government they put together. I don’t think it will be easy… What part of Wallonia are you going to?
Keep your chin up about that little gain – it can be discouraging but try not to let it get you off your program. It could be just that you are getting back into working out and your muscles are retaining water.

  11. Glad you got rested and got your energy back. Isn’t it amazing how much energy puppies have! I miss having a puppy.

You will do great with your training and races!

  12. Fran, I could never forget you, in fact I was here yesterday and added a comment but not sure where it went. When you wrote your comment I thought “what is she talking about I was just there yesterday” but now I can see how you would think i forgot you and didn’t know who you were.

Either way you did lure me in just by saying Bella ;-). how cute is she my goodness I could just cuddle her!

Sounds like a great plan you have their fran and you are my hero all those hills yikes 😉

  13. That race in October sounds really nice. Isn’t it nice to have a race on the books so you have something to train for?
Bella’s pictures are always so cute, she is just the sweetest dog.

  14. love that youre doing a 15 k in november!

kinda close to my race in december—-I shall harness your racing excitement 🙂
