A day in my life: Tuesday July 15, 2010

My first working days are done. It was a bit difficult starting yesterday morning but I’m already used to working again. The best thing is that I’m back at my daily routine which makes eating healthy and regular exercise so much easier.

I’m not going to talk about the World Cup final we’ve lost and Spain deserved to win. I’m proud of our team that they made it to the final. All the critics from other countries can say what they want but their country wasn’t in the final, our’s did. The Dutch are proud that they have come so far and this is what you get in Holland from the fans when you return home:

Visiting the Queen

Round trip through the canals of Amsterdam

Cheering for the team at the "Museumplein" in Amsterdam

Let’s talk a bit about running shall we?

I received a package in the mail yesterday from Shelley from a forty-something’s weight loss journey. I’ve read about Bondi bands all over blogland but after checking out the website it was a bit difficult to get them delivered in Holland. I’ve mentioned that once in a comment on Shelley’s blog and she sent me an email that she would give me a bondi band and I could just pick one. So I’ve picked a few in case my favourite would be sold out and to my big surprise the package didn’t have 1 but 2 bondi bands in it. Both pink as requested, one says “live, laugh, run” and the other “run, walk, crawl, finish!”

Shelley got the last one too in a different colour and we made a deal we will both wear it in the same weekend when she run’s her first half marathon on November 20th and I run a 15K on November 21th.

Bondi bands

Shelley I can’t thank you enough, I’m so happy with the bands and you’re so sweet that you give me this present. I’d wish we’d live closer together because I would give you a big hug, for now you’ll have to do with a virtual.

I’ve been busy this weekend. I’m starting with week 4 of my half marathon training this week. The program is 28 weeks in total. What I’ve done is make an Excel sheet and plan all my runs, races and gym workouts in it. I’ve coded the different trainings with colours, the purple ones you see on the right are runs I’m going to participate in. The program will be finished in week 5 – 2011 which gives me about two more months to finetune before my first half in April or June (haven’t decided which one I’m going to do). I’ve put the schedule on the wall next to my goals (looking at it right now) and each run/workout I’ve finished will be crossed off and of course I would like to use my pen a lot! I like it (and not just for the colours), it gives me something to hold on to. I’m a person who works with to do lists a lot at work and at home so this is perfect for me.

Training schedule

This morning I got up at 5.15 am and was outside at 5.30 am for my first run of week 4 of my half marathon plan. It was great, the heat wave is over here and it was nice and cool. This has been the best run since the last 3 weeks, everything was right. I wore my new shoes and they are great. I’ve had trouble with my right leg lately that got tired every run but on my new shoes I had no trouble at all with this.

Weather: cloudy, hardly any wind, ± 16C / 60 degrees.
Distance: 4.4 K / 2.7 miles
Time: 00:30:15
Average time: 6:52 /km
Average speed: 8.7 km/hour

Fran’s daily outfit:
Back to work means different outfits. I’m a management assistant and my job requires that I look representative. I hardly wear jeans to work, sometimes on a Friday when my manager is not in the office and we don’t get visitors. So you’re going to see different outfits than in my vacation.

The Monday dress is new, I’ve bought it last week on sale and I love it, it’s very comfortable. I wore it with the shoes I bought last week. Tuesday’s outfit you’ve seen before, the difference is I wear jewellery and make-up.

What’s for dinner:
Yesterday a burger, potatoes and mixed vegetables.
Today chicken with tomatoes and onions in a sweet-sour sauce with rice.

  1. We need to see a picture of you sporting the Bondi Band!

  2. Glad you like the Bondi Bands – and in November, we will Run Walk Crawl FINISH our races!!! 🙂 Good that your running is going so well and woohoo that the new shoes are working out! I love your pretty training chart.

What an awesome reception Holland gave their soccer team – totally deserved, as they were a great team. Still loving all of the orange every time there’s a Dutch celebration.

Your dress is so pretty and you look fantastic – the shoes are great with it!

  3. That was so nice of Shelley to send you the Bondi bonds! It is so wonderful to be able to reach across the world and touch people.

Yay to Holland making it to the finals! Looks like they came home to a really great party!

    Love the new dress!

Glad your heatwave is over…still melting over here.

  4. Wow, your training chart is very high tech., I love it!! Shelley is the sweetest. I have a neat Texas/running sticker she sent me and I don’t want to ever get rid of my car because it sports the sticker so well!
Once again, I love the brown shoes and your dress is darling.

  5. I was sporting Orange and hoping for them to take the crown….oh well, its over till 4 years time..
I do think if Muller from the Germany team was in the semi final they would have beaten Spain as Muller was such a key player…then as we hoped a German/Holland final, would have been so difficult for me to chose a side as I like both ~ Holland feels like South ~Africa to me!

cant tell u when last I wore heels….they so sexy but I’m a housewife now so don’t need many pairs…my daughter in law loves her heel shoes ~ my sister in law, the sexy one wears Porno shoes they are so high!!

  6. I don’t know what a bondi band is!

Love your outfits…Monday’s shoes are awesome!

  7. I like your color coded training plan. Did you do that or is that how it originally was?

  8. I’m with Connie – what is a bondi band? It’s cute though – however you wear it! Your training schedule is so organized and impressive!

  9. Glad your training is going well! I agree with Diane, I love how organized you are!

And I love Monday’s dress. I actually bought a dress with similar colors and a similar pattern, but I haven’t worn it yet.

  10. Love the first outfit Fran, so colorful!!

How great that Shelly sent you some bondi bands, I have two and love mine! Hope you enjoy them, that was very sweet of her!

Training schedule is so colorful, love it!
Oh and the beer pictures was my hubbies, i can’t even stand the smell of beer ;-), but give me a glass of red wine and i’ll never say no 🙂

  11. Thanks for your support, Fran! I also love your training schedule – I am the same way, I always make a big chart for my training programs so I can cross everything off as I go along. I never thought of adding color to them, though! I haven’t done any running but now the heat is gone, I am starting to feel like it again.
We felt bad for Holland, but your team did great anyway – it was a heck of a close match, and football is sometimes such a lottery…

  12. Hey Fran, I saw your blog on the Black Knight’s! Love your training schedule. Alas mine has fallen apart this year, and I am trying to get back on track again. Too bad about the football, but octopus Paul did warn us ahead of time!

  13. Hi Fran,
First of all, I love the shoes:)

When I was a flight attendant I was lucky enough to visit Amsterdam! I loved going up and down the canals:)

Nice job on getting a run in…good luck with training on the half:)

  14. Fran – I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your training schedule. I really like the colour coding. I’m totally copying this. 🙂

Also got me intrigued with the bondi band. Must check into it.

  15. Hi Fran,
You posted nice images of Netherlands soccer team with the Queen and through the canals of Amsterdam. Thanks for sharing. But I’m really disappointed with the 2010 Fifa world cup: Netherlands and Germany are stronger than Spain!

Great training schedule 🙂 I hope you’ll have a nice week 4 of your half marathon training. This evening I’ll have burger, potatoes and mixed vegetables too 🙂

Post scriptum: I saw your last comment on my blog. when you visit Rome and surrondings you’ll run as training through those hill.
