A day in my life: Saturday July 30, 2011

Thoughts:
Thanks for all the comments about gym memberships. It was very interesting to read. I cancelled mine last Thursday. It doesn’t end before January but I thought better cancel it now before I’m too late and am stuck with it another year.

K. and I picked a date when we are going to try out Bootcamp. We’re going in October 2 weeks after my half marathon. Till half October my focus is on training for that, that’s why we wait before we try it.

Meg asked in her comment if Summer already disappeared here in Holland. Well, Summer never really arrived here yet. We had some great days in April and May. June was okay but July was very bad. It was the 6th wettest month ever, there was twice as much rain than normally in July. Normally July has about 212 hours sunshine, this year it’s 160 hours. But … weather forecast for the next 2 weeks is looking better, less rain and more sunshine.

Tonight R. and I are finally going to see the last Harry Potter movie. I look forward to it but it’s also kind of sad because after this, there’s nothing left: no more books and no more movies to look forward too.

Exercise:
Thursday morning an easy run was on my schedule. After 2 days of running and not being used to running 3 days in a row, I did feel my legs but I did do it. Guess I have to get used to running 3 days in a row.

Stats:
Weather: dry, a little bit of wind, 13C (55 degrees)
Distance: 3.5 K / 2.1 miles
Time: 00:24:44
Average time: 7:04 /km
Average speed: 8.5 km/hour
Last song on Ipod before finish: Alexis Jordan – Happiness.

Friday is my rest day. I had the day off and worked in the garden all morning. Took me 2.5 hours to do the whole garden. In the afternoon I took Bella for a 50-minute walk. Although it was a rest day, it was certainly an active rest day.

And it’s raining again …

Day 210 – Friday July 29
Wild blackberries are almost ready to eat. I love picking them and snack them immediately. So does Bella 🙂

  1. Wild blackberries – what a treat! I am hoping right along with you that the weather forecast is right and we get some summer weather next week – fingers crossed… Good job on your run – my sister says those runs where you feel it in your legs are the ones where you make a log of progression in your strength and stamina.
I’ll be curious to hear what you think of the last Harry Potter – I felt sad at the end that it was all over.

  2. That sure was an active rest day you had 😉

  3. Enjoy the blackberries when they are ripe! 🙂 I have fond memories of picking blackberries when I was a kid…

  4. I would have eaten all those berries 😀

Do your fish stay in the pond all year or do you have to winter them somewhere?

  5. I love wild berries yummy!
I sure hope the weather clears up for you Fran, it seems like summer has been very wet for everyone.

  6. Working for 2 1/2 hours doesn’t sound like rest but if you are enjoying it I guess it is.

When I was at Lake Placid I saw someone riding a road bike with a dog in a back pack. I was driving so I didn’t get a good look but I was amazed at what I did see.

  7. Yayyy for trying bootcamp! I think you will love it!! Its a very different experience but its really a lot of fun if you get a good class! Let me know what you think!!!!

  8. Did you like the movie? I just saw it last weekend – sigh…so sad to see the end of the story.

  9. Hi Fran! Sure hope your weather improves soon!!! Those berries need sunshine and warmth…and so do you and your neighbors!! LOVE the photo of the fish pond though, the rain gives great interest! Hope your dacquari was good!! 🙂

  10. Sorry for the delay in commenting: I am glad you spent good time with Amy. This kind of meetings are wonderful. I like very much the pic where you are together.
Also the pics in this post are too beautiful!
Here July is crazy too, rain and an alternating of warm and cold temperatures. Last week we got a flood and the city was blocked by tons of rain.

  11. After our rainy, rainy spring, once summer got here it has stuck around. While New England hasn’t had Texas style heat in the 100s it has been very hot and humid 85-90F every day. Ever since you said you don’t care for hot weather I think of you when we’re having a scorcher 😀

  12. Yum blackberries! I ate a ton of them while picking at a farm last week. 😉
Do you ever have problems with birds eating your koi in your pond?

  13. Excited to hear how you like the bootcamp classes!

Our blackberries are still a way off. Seeing yours makes me look forward to them.

  14. Oh my! I love fresh berries, yum!! Excited to hear more about your bootcamp!! 🙂
