Wednesday December 7 – 2011, The workout edition

Thursday
Wednesday night I decided to skip my run on Thursday morning. I had a long meeting planned on Thursday and I choose to sleep another hour and be well rested for the meeting. It was the right decision because it turned out a long day (left home at 8.15 am and was home at 7.15 pm) and the extra sleep helped me get through the day.

Friday
Time for the 30 Day Shred. I mix all my workout DVD’s and don’t do the same thing twice in a row. I get easily bored and by mixing everything the workouts stay fun for me. Did level 2 on Friday.
Total time: 27 minutes.

Saturday
Today’s run was one of the hardest runs I’ve ever done. Reason? The weather: very hard wind and rain, rain, rain. Due to the wind the rain even hurt when it hit my face. Also the day I decided to run 8K (5 miles), I haven’t run more than 4 miles since the beginning of October. At least there were 2 points during the run where I had the wind in my back and could “relax” a little, the rest of the run was hard work. But boy oh boy, this run was such a boost for my motivation and confidence. I’m happy I didn’t let the rain/wind stop me from going even though I was soaking wet when I got home. Even had water in my shoes, don’t think that ever happened before.

Stats:
Weather:rain, very hard wind, 6C (42 degrees)
Distance: 8 K / 5 miles
Time: 00:55:59
Average time: 7:00 /km
Average speed: 8.6 km/hour
Last song on Ipod before finish: Spencer Davis Group – Keep on running

Sunday
A pace (10K) run to do today. I warmed up the first K and then tried to stay at a 6:30 (per km) pace. I managed to do that. Because of the warm-up and 2 walk breaks the overall pace is a bit slower but nevertheless a satisfying run. Much better weather than Saturday too. Since Saturday my right heel hurts a little, don’t know what happened to it and it bothered me a bit during the run, so did my right calf. Going to watch both the next couple of days that it’s not getting worse.

Stats:
Weather:dry, windy, 8C (46 degrees)
Distance: 5.6 K / 3.5 miles
Time: 00:37:43
Average time: 6:44 /km
Average speed: 8.9 km/hour
Last song on Ipod before finish: Blondie – One way or another.

Monday
Rest day. My legs were very sore Sunday, I think because of the Shred workout from Friday because I never have sore legs after running. Everytime I sat for a while and got up, they hurt. I decided Sunday night to take a day of rest because my body obviously needed it.

Tuesday & Wednesday
Didn’t workout or run because of my heel pain. By now it’s better, not completely over yet, and I will try a workout tomorrow morning on my new Adidas.

Daily stuff:
This morning I had a different post in mind. I was going to complain about the fact that since September I had a cold twice, cancelled my half marathon and did not run for about 2 weeks, my heel that hurts. I was really irritated that things don’t go the way I want them too. But then I got home, it was dry but lots of wind (wind force 8), I put Bella on the leash and off we went. You know I love wind and it was a hard wind, almost storm. And the wind cleared my mind. By the time I got home everything wasn’t so bad anymore. Yes I had some setbacks lately on the exercise front but that’s no reason to give up and I won’t. I keep following my workout plan and if I need a day of rest, I just take it.

Next Friday we are going to buy our Christmas tree. We have a “fake” one at the addict but it’s a lot of work to set it up (over an hour). Last year we didn’t have a tree because I didn’t feel like setting it up. And I don’t feel like it this year but I do like a Christmas tree. That’s why we are going to try a real one. The stores of my company sell them, we’ll buy it there because I get an employee discount of 20%.

Daily Dinner:

Monday
Pork, baked potatoes and pees with carrots.

Tuesday
Swedish meatballs, mashed potatoes, apple-cranberry compote.

Wednesday
Chicken tikka masala with naan bread and mangochutney.

365 days photo challenge 2011

Day 339 – Monday December 5
Sinterklaas! We met Sinterklaas at the restaurant Sunday but he wasn’t that interested in us but in Bella.

Day 340 – Tuesday December 6
My new workout shoes: Adidas in black and purple. They feel so light on my feet, much better than my old Reeboks.

Day 341 – Wednesday December 7
Blown away by the storm.

  1. do you really spell peas pees? So interesting ;-).
Sounds like a great week Fran. I find that weather has never really stopped me from getting out for a run unless there is really big snow. Some of the best runs are the challenging ones, and you proved that! Way to go!
I absolutely love that picture of you, you look fantastic!

  2. oh and funny you should mention a real tree! Hubby has been promising me “next year we will get a real one” for YEARS! This year I am making him keep his promise 😉

  3. Nope, pees is a typing mistake from me. Sorry 🙂

  4. The rain stops me. I never run in it. I use the treadmill if it is raining (and I hate the treadmil.)

  5. You are so hardcore running in the rain! And loving the wind? I don’t like the wind much, especially while biking. It makes it hard unless it is a tail wind. Bella looks like she is going to blow away 😀

  6. Sharp sharp shoes. I love them! Good job getting out there in the rain. And the wind! Together a deadly combo.
We always have a Charlie Brown tree from our land.

  7. You remind me I need to think about getting our tree this weekend!
I’m glad the wind blew away your negative thoughts… There is no need for us to beat ourselves up when we miss a workout – we all do the best we can!

  8. You can have your rain and wind runs, I’ll take my treadmill over that any day (except a race day of course). I think your legs were tired because you ran hard on Friday and then again on Saturday.

I think working out is cyclical just like everything else. We all have up times where we’re just on top of our game and then down times where every little thing seems to stand in the way. Hanging in there is the only way to go!

  9. I love all the variety of your meals AND workouts. Nice job!!!

Good luck with the Christmas tree. Our fake one goes up easily, but I would like to get a real one some day.

  10. That wind picture with Bella is awesome – I can’t believe you two like the wind so much! Too cold for this south Texan, lol!

  11. Running in the rain and the wind is tough!!! You rock! Love that the wind blew away all your negative thoughts and got you in a better frame of mind.

Hope your heel and calf are both back to normal.

    Have a great weekend!

  12. Ha – love the wind blown photos! And you just reminded me that I need to make chicken tikka masala soon -its so good!

  13. Nice job running in the rain and staying tough! BTW, Bella’s hair is so cute blowing in the wind!

  14. Your dishes look very tasty.
We always buy real trees, I just love the smell. I think we will be getting ours this weekend.
I love running in the rain, I feel invincible and I totally enjoy the looks I am getting. 🙂
    Cool dog picture.

  15. Wind and rain: the worst situation for a good workout, but you did it!
Beautiful shoes!!! …and, of course, Black!!!!
I love the first 2 dishes …. not the third because I don’t like chicken.
Have a good (running) week end without rain and wind.

  16. I like your attitude despite your setbacks! (We all have them…) All that matters is that you keep going, which you do! Great job! I just saw your update on FB and Daily Mile, great job on the run today!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  17. Glad you had good runs, Fran! Great weekly training!
We are making our Christmas three too!

Carrots, mashed potatoes, apple-cranberry compote: It’s easy to see that you are eating healthier. Maybe Swedish meatballs are the same of our meatballs and there ins’t any difference. I’m curious!

    Have a nice Sunday!

  18. I love your attitude about not letting things get you down in your workouts.
All your food looks delicious. I would love to try your Swedish meatballs. Yum.
