Friday October 12, 2012: Animals edition

Daily stuff:

My cold is much better, except for a running nose and some sneezing and coughing I’m much much better.

Tomorrow we’re going to a concert. It’s a Dutch band called “Doe Maar” who were extremely popular in the eighties. They quit after a couple of years because their popularity was too much for them. They wanted rest and no more yelling fans everywhere they went. You were either a Henny Vrienten fan (2nd left in the photos) or Ernst Jansz fan (at the right in the photos). I was into Ernst Jansz when I was about 16 years old. They sing in Dutch and I loved (and still love) their music too. A couple of years ago they had a reunion concert where R. and I went too.

The concert tomorrow has a theme: Symphonica in Rosso. It’s with a big symphonic orchestra and most guests will be wearing red (I’m wearing red pants). They also have a lot of guests, most of them all other popular Dutch bands from the eighties.

Looking forward to this concert very much.

Workouts:

Yesterday morning a cardio session of Turbofire. Turbofire is one of the Beachbody programs I bought and I love these programs. They are intense and have lots of variety in the workouts which I like.
Total time: 44 minutes.

Another run in the rain this morning, it was even raining harder than last Saturday. But I live inHollandand it rains sometimes (a lot) here and rain runs are part of the deal, especially in Autumn. So I sucked it up and went and felt like a totally wet but awesome badass for doing the run.

Stats:
Run-walk ratio: 5-3-5-3-5-3-5-3 (20 minutes running, 12 minutes walking)
Weather: rain, wind,9C(48 degrees)
Distance: 4.5 K / 2.8 miles
Time: 00:32:00
Last song on Ipod before finish: Train –Fifty Ways to Say Goodbye

Friday October 5, 2012: Tennis groupie of retired tennis players

Daily stuff:

Yesterday was a big success, it was such a fun day. We started with a lunch followed by a presentation by Jacco Eltingh, former multiple grand slam winner in the doubles. He spoke about top sport related to work. It was very interesting. I admire everyone who is a professional sports men or woman, no matter what sports they do. They have to have so much self discipline to perform at such a high level. It was so interesting when he told about his professional career as a tennis player. Right now he’s a very succesful business man who owns 4 companies.

Did you know that an average top tennis player, plays about 3 matches a year without injuries? Every other match they have some kind of injury of pain but they don’t give in to that and keep going. It reminded me of Shelley and Helen, both have (or had) foot injuries but both didn’t give up. To me, they are top sporters too.

After that it was time for the first tennis match between Richard Kraijcek (Dutch tennis player, wonWimbledononce) and Carlos Moya (in 1990 he was in People’s list of 50 most beautiful men of the world and he still was handsome). Even though they are both retired, they still could play tennis at a high level. Kraijcek won the game.

After dinner I watch a double between Ramon Sluiter and Goran Ivanisevic (he’s funny and still hits the aces he’s famous for) and Mansour Bahrami and Paul Haarhuis (former partner of Jacco Eltingh). They had some jokes during the match which made it very fun to watch.

The last game between Ivan Lendl and Andrei Medvedev I passed and stayed in the hospitality unit.

During dinner Jacco Eltingh came to our hospitality unit with Richard Kraijcek and chatted with our guests for a while. One of the men kept saying I should ask them both if I could let my photo taken by him and they didn’t mind doing that when I asked them. Just before that I was walking around and saw Ramon Sluiter and asked him if I could get a photo. So as of yesterday I’m a retired tennis player groupie LOL.

With Jacco Eltingh

With Ramon Sluiter

With Richard Kraijcek. I said to him “you are so tall”. He answered “well, you’re pretty tall yourself too” 🙂 but I felt quite short next to him.

This is not a tennis player but one of my favorite managers I work for and with

My week in skies:

Tuesday October 2nd

Wednesday October 3rd

Friday October 5th

Workouts:

Yesterday morning I did a workout of The Firm Express. The workouts are short but intense, this one had cardio and sculpt excercises.
Total time: 20 minutes.

This morning I did yogalates. I did 2 workouts of 15 minutes of the DVD: one for the upper body and one for the lower body.
Total time: 31 minutes.

Knitting update:

I started on my sweater. Knitting goes fast because of the bigger needles and the fact that I use 2 or 3 yarns at the same time. I had bought 1 yarn of every color but after knitting this, I already had to buy new yarns of the light grey color.

Friday September 28, 2012: A lost week

Daily stuff:

The past week has been a weird one because we both got sick.

It started with me on Sunday night when I had symptoms of the flu. On Monday and Tuesday I had mostly stomach and back pain. I even went home early Monday and went to bed when I got home. Wednesday my stomach and back were better but I got a cold. By today I’m feeling much better. I’m taking it easy this weekend and hopefully will be fully recovered on Monday.

R. was feeling okay till Tuesday evening. He got it very cold and half an hour after he went to bed he had to throw up. He went out of bed that night for (I think) 6 times to throw up. And every time I woke up too and had a bad night because of that. In the morning he wasn’t feeling any better and for the first time in his life he had to call in sick at work. Yesterday he seemed to be a bit better but at night he was cold again. He went to bed very early. This morning he felt a little better but not his old self again.

I did my workouts the best I could. I had to cut some of them short and I was a bit slower than usual but I didn’t skip any. For the rest I didn’t do anything. When I got home from work, I made dinner, took Bella for a walk and lay down at the couch for the rest of the evening. I hardly watched TV nor did I read or do other things I like. That’s the reason I choose the title of this post: to me this is a lost week because I did nothing. But am sure next week will be better.

Knitting update:

Yes, that’s right: an update. I’m starting a new project: a sweater for Winter. I haven’t started it yet but will this weekend. I think it will knit fast because the needles are big and I have to use 3 colors of yarn at the same time.

You might wonder what happened to the other sweater I was knitting. Well, that isn’t finished yet but it’s a Spring sweater and I don’t like knitting Spring/Summer stuff in Winter. I will pick that one up by the end of Winter.

Workouts:

Tuesday morning I did a Turbofire workout. I didn’t completely do the Fire 30 workout because I still wasn’t recovered a 100%. I did finish with a 10 minute stretch.
Total time: 34 minutes.

I went for a run after a week and a half on Wednesday morning. I didn’t finish the complete run because the last 8 minutes of running were a struggle because of my cold. I just did the best I could and was glad afterwards that I went. Better do something than nothing.

Stats:
Run-walk ratio: 8-2-10-2-8-2 (26 minutes running, 6 minutes walking)
Weather:rain, windy,11C(51 degrees)
Distance: 4 K / 2.5 miles
Time: 00:29:40
Last song on Ipod before finish: Bob Seger – Still the same

Yesterday morning I did a Jillian workout: killer buns & thighs. A few hours after the workout I knew why it had this title: my buns and thighs were screaming. I thought I had pretty good shaped legs but apparently they can be shaped more. Good and fun workout.
Total time: 39 minutes.

Food:

Monday

Simple recipe from one of my cook magazines: pork tenderloin and a salad with rocket salad, avocado, tomato, onion and feta cheese. Very light and tasteful.

Tuesday

Recipe from a cooking magazine: oven dish of ham, potatoes and leek with a topping of crème fraiche and cheese. It doesn’t look that good on my plate but it was tasty.

Monday July 16, 2012: The Mishmash Edition

Daily stuff:

John Fogerty was great, lots of CCR songs and of his own work. The new music hall was fantastic. I was late buying tickets and we had the cheapest seats but still could see it very good. The only thing was that the music was too loud. He had 5 (including himself) guitar players in his band and it was just too hard. We both had pain in our ears when we left after the concert. But besides that we had a great evening.

We had a little hope that maybe Bruce would do a guest performance at the concert since he is in Europe and didn’t have a concert that night. Besides that his daughter was in Holland this weekend for a horse event. But no such luck. I read Sunday that John Fogerty did a guest performance at Bruce’s concert in London Saturday night. Should have been the other way 🙂

Saturday was such a rainy day. We’re heading towards one of the wettest Summers ever. I’m not complaining because that’s no use: you can’t change the weather. But a bit higher temperatures and less rain would be nice. At least the rain coat I bought when I got back from vacation has it’s use, I’ve used it more than enough LOL.

My Mom came over yesterday and stayed for dinner. We had a good time with the three of us. For the rest our weekend was easy.

Book I’m reading

E.L. James
Fifty Shades Freed

Started the last one of Fifty Shades. I want to know how it ends but I have to admit it’s slowly losing my attention. I’m skipping most of the love scenes, they are more of the same everytime. I like The Twilight and Hunger Games books so much more than these.

Movies I’ve seen last week

Captain America

I haven’t watch many movies lately. I’m more into TV series but Saturday night we watched this one. It was an okay movie.

TV shows I watched last week

Glee, Mad Men, King, The Good Wife.

Cross Stitching

Last week I worked on “Beauty of Asia”.

How it will look when it's finished

Knitting update

You might wonder why I don’t give you any updates. Well that’s simple: I’m not knitting very much at the moment. As soon as I restart it, the updates will come back.

Monday May 28, 2012: The Mishmash Edition

Daily stuff:

Tuesday was my birthday. We don’t celebrate it that huge since we turned 40 and for the past 2 years I didn’t celebrate it at all. But some things happened this past year. I have 3 people at work. One of them lost his wife to cancer. One of them has a girlfriend (she’s 33) that has cancer. And one of them is a girl I work with that recently got diagnosed with breast cancer, she’s 39. This made me realize (once again) that life is short and that you should celebrate the things in life that are worth celebrating and getting a year older in good health is one of them.

When I got to work, 2 of the guys I work with decorated my office.

My managers bought me flowers. R. and I don’t really exchange gifts but he knows I collect cook books and he saw one in the bookstore he thought I would like. It’s called (translated) “The Silver Spoon Tuscany” and got recipes from Tuscany in it. That adds another book to my cook book challenge. The book is one of a series of 4 and I have been thinking of buying them in the past. The book is beautiful illustrated and now (you know where I’m going right?) I want the other 3 too.

My Mom, MIL, my friend T. and her husband B. and another friend of mine M. came over for coffee with cake and some drinks at night. It was so nice outside, we sat on the terrace till 11 pm. By that time everyone except T. and B. had left and we called it a night because we all had to work the next morning.

Wednesday I treated my colleagues for my birthday. I did this together with a guy who had his birthday Friday so we could split the costs. I ordered 2 “Spakenburgs hart” at my bakery. This is a giant cookie that you can only buy in my village but everybody knows it and loves it. Personally I don’t and I didn’t have any (it’s made almost a 100% of butter). But it looks great, the text says “happy birthday”.

Friday Bella got a haircut. Her hair was very long and we noticed the heat bothered her a little because of all her hair. She’s now ready for Summer. I like it that you can see the different shades of brown again.

Yesterday we went to a forest we go to often. We went early before it would be to warm for Bella and it was lovely weather for a walk. They did some maintenance in the forest, it’s a forest they planted many years ago. The made a new pond but it’s going to take a while before it looks natural again.

Book I’m reading

Brian Freeman
Stalked

After a couple of weeks of no reading I started a new book and I like it.  Almost finished it too.

TV shows I watched last week

The Big Bang Theory, Grey’s Anatomy, Revenge, Once upon a time, Touch, Mad Men.

Cross Stitching

This is what I worked on this weekend. The package is called Two Parrots. I will add a pic of how it will look when it’s finished from now on. This way you will have a better idea how it will look.

 Knitting update

I started with the front of the sweater yesterday and the progress I made isn’t really worth showing yet.

Monday May 21, 2012: The Mishmash Edition

Daily stuff:

Our weekend started on Thursday because Ascension day is a public holiday in Holland. Most companies are closed the following Friday and so was R.’s and mine. I started Thursday morning with a gorgeous run: sunshine, little bit of wind, nice temperature. Perfect running weather.

Friday I did some household chores that I postponed a view times, like window washing. Of course it rained at night. Story of my life: I clean the windows and it rains.

We had 4 days with beautiful weather, except Sunday morning that started clouded and with rain but later in the afternoon it got warm and sunny again. We had to wait a long time for Spring but it seems it’s finally arrived.

Today it was even warmer: 29C (84 degrees). At lunchtime some guys I work with came to ask me if I wanted to join them on a lunchwalk which I didn’t refuse. It was gorgeous outside, even a bit too warm.

Tomorrow it’s my birthday and it looks as if we can sit outside. Most of the times the weather is bad on my birthday. I’m not having a big birthday party this year. Tomorrow night my Mom, MIL and my friend T. are coming over for coffee and birthday cake.

It’s a tradition R. and I go out for a birthday dinner which I wanted to do next Friday. I want to go to a specific restaurant but they were booked for a private party on Friday and I made reservations for the Friday after that. We’ll have to wait a bit longer for my birthday dinner.

TV shows I watched last week
The Big Bang Theory, Touch, Grey’s Anatomy, King, The Good Wife, The Mentalist, Once upon a time, Revenge, Mad Men.

Cross Stitching

This is what I worked on this weekend. The package is called African Wildlife and I finished about a quarter of this piece.

Knitting update

The back of my sweater is finished! The size looks good and I’ll start on the front this week.

Friday May 4, 2012: The TGIF edition

We had some unvited guests in our pond Tuesday:

Since they didn’t have an invitation, Bella kindly asked them to go away. Which of course didn’t impress them much. So I had to help her to get them out of the pond. They did but just moved to the neighbours pond. A few minutes later they were back but this time Bella didn’t take no for an answer and did get them out of the pond by herself.

Wednesday was my Mom’s birthday. She turned 70. We went to celebrate it on Wednesday evening. Most of the people already had visited her because most of them are retired. It was just us, my sister and her husband and my mother’s brother and his wife.

Today it’s Memorial Day. We remember the casualties of the Second World War and of those who died while being on peace missions. Our flag is flying at half-mast. At 8 pm we are quiet for 2 minutes to remember those who fought for our freedom.

And tomorrow we celebrate our freedom. Then the flag is full in top, there are freedom concerts all over the country and some cities have fireworks.

We are not going to the celebrations because R. is away all day. He has his first motor race of the season. And tomorrow night we celebrate his best friend’s birthday who turns 50 on Sunday. It’s a garden party and unfortunately it’s going to be chilly tomorrow. But that doesn’t mean we won’t have fun.

Knitting update

I made some progress on the sweater. I’m going to finish the back of this sweater first before I continue at the vest. Although I’m not quite sure yet if I am going to finish that one. It looks really small and I think it’s a waiste of time if I finish it and it won’t fit. And I’m too lazy to start over again in a bigger size. I only bought the yarn I needed to start with and have no leftovers of the yellow color. I am going to think about it, haven’t made my mind up yet about the vest.

Have a great weekend!
