Wednesday October 10, 2012: Catched a cold

Daily stuff:
Well I’ve catched that cold that R. had (still has a bit) too. Tuesday morning when I got up it was worse. I slept well which was nice because the meeting I had to take notes at from 9 am till 5 pm didn’t help. I was exhausted by the time I got home. I took a short walk with Bella, the fresh air helped and went to bed early.

But yesterday was the first and it appeared to be the worst day too. Today I’m already feeling much better except for a light headache. Just one more day of work and my weekend can begin.

Workouts:

Yesterday morning I did Rhythmica Latin Dance Mix. Second workout I did of this DVD and the workouts are boring and not challenging. I don’t even sweat doing them. I won’t be doing these workouts again.
Total time: 20 minutes.

Despite my cold I decided to go out this morning and do my run and see how far I would come. But I did the whole training because it went actually pretty well to my surprise. Glad I did get up and go instead of thinking I couldn’t because of my cold.

Stats:
Run-walk ratio: 5-3-5-3-5-3-5-3 (20 minutes running, 12 minutes walking)
Weather:dry, not much wind,4C(39 degrees)
Distance: 4.4 K / 2.7 miles
Time: 00:32:40
Last song on Ipod before finish: Mutya Buena – Real Girl

Book I’m reading

George R.R. Martin
A Song of Fire and Ice – Book 4 A Feast for Crows

I’m not really making progress in this book. I don’t read that much at all at the moment.

Movies I’ve seen last week

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (US version)

I loved the Milennium Triology books and we have seen the Swedish movies of the books too but I hadn’t seen the USv ersion yet. It was good but I find that Lisbeth Salander was better casted in the Swedish movie. The girl that played in this movie didn’t live up to my expectations that I had of Lisbeth after reading the books, the Swedish girl did. But other than that, it was a good movie.

TV shows I watched last week
Private Practice, Rookie Blue, Dallas, True Blood, Game of Thrones, Parenthood.

Daily stuff:

I didn’t feel like blogging Friday. I made a few more recipes for my challenge but not all of them tasted that good this time. Except for the strawberry crumble by Nigella Lawson I made on Sunday. This was soooooooooo good!

Recipe here

Last Tuesday I was walking with Bella. Where it is safe I let her off the leash. She listens good and usually stays close to me. Tuesday I didn’t hear her walking behind me and I turned around. I saw her rolling through the grass. The little diva was rolling through duck poop. Holy cow did she smell terrible. When we got home I put her in the sink in the kitchen immediately and washed. She didn’t like it but she should have thought of that before she started rolling through the poop.
Why do dogs do that? It’s so gross.

Thursday we had the first meeting of the fit team as it is called for now. I am very excited to be part of this program which goal is to make the people at our company as healthy as possible. We have to read the plans first, then decide which subject you would like to be an ambassador of: move more, eat healthy, quit smoking, drink less alcohol, relax more. I haven’t got the plans yet and have no idea yet what I would like to do but my first thought would be exercise or eat healthy. We have our next meeting at the end of next month.

Lately I unplug from the internet completely during the weekends. I only use it to update my stats after running or a workout, do my weekly administration and my weekly planning. But that’s all and you know what: I love it. Because I suddenly have much more time to do all the things I used to do a lot “before the internet”. I read a lot, do more cross stitching than I’ve done in the past years and other things. I keep up with FB a few times a day through my phone.

Do you ever unplug from the internet?

Yesterday R., Bella and I went to a little village called Austerlitz. Austerlitz is “famous” for its pyramid that was build in 1804. The pyramid itself isn’t that attractive to me but the surrounding forest is fantastic. We picked a trail that would take about 1 hour and 15 minutes according to the sign but it took us 1 hour and 30 minutes which didn’t matter because it’s beautiful out there. Bella was sleeping the rest of the afternoon in the sunshine.
For dinner we put on the BBQ because we finally have some actual Summer weather here in Holland.

Book I’m reading

George R.R. Martin
Song of Ice and Fire – Book 3, part 1, A Storm of Swords

I finally finished the fifty shades books. I skipped a lot of parts in the last book. I mean how often can one write “I love you” in a book. I was actually done with it after the second book but wanted to know how it would end.

I was happy I could move one with the next book in the Song of Ice and Fire series.

Movies I’ve seen last week

De Heineken Ontvoering (The kidnapping of Heineken)

Dutch movie. In 1983 Alfred Heineken (from the beer) was kidnapped for 21 days. The ransom that was paid was 35 million gulden (about 15 million Euro’s or USD to keep it simple). They eventually catched all 4 kidnappers. The movie showed the kidnapping and the haunt for the kidnappers after that. They didn’t show exactly how it went but it came close.

When this happened I was a teenager but I still remember it because it was all over the news in those days.

TV shows I watched last week

The Borgias, Mad Men, Glee.

First episode of The Borgias. Not sure yet if I am going to like this show. I’ll have to give it a few more try’s. Anyone watched this show? And if so, do you like it?

Cross Stitching

Last week I worked on this little country house.

This is how it will look once it's finished

My progress

Monday July 16, 2012: The Mishmash Edition

Daily stuff:

John Fogerty was great, lots of CCR songs and of his own work. The new music hall was fantastic. I was late buying tickets and we had the cheapest seats but still could see it very good. The only thing was that the music was too loud. He had 5 (including himself) guitar players in his band and it was just too hard. We both had pain in our ears when we left after the concert. But besides that we had a great evening.

We had a little hope that maybe Bruce would do a guest performance at the concert since he is in Europe and didn’t have a concert that night. Besides that his daughter was in Holland this weekend for a horse event. But no such luck. I read Sunday that John Fogerty did a guest performance at Bruce’s concert in London Saturday night. Should have been the other way 🙂

Saturday was such a rainy day. We’re heading towards one of the wettest Summers ever. I’m not complaining because that’s no use: you can’t change the weather. But a bit higher temperatures and less rain would be nice. At least the rain coat I bought when I got back from vacation has it’s use, I’ve used it more than enough LOL.

My Mom came over yesterday and stayed for dinner. We had a good time with the three of us. For the rest our weekend was easy.

Book I’m reading

E.L. James
Fifty Shades Freed

Started the last one of Fifty Shades. I want to know how it ends but I have to admit it’s slowly losing my attention. I’m skipping most of the love scenes, they are more of the same everytime. I like The Twilight and Hunger Games books so much more than these.

Movies I’ve seen last week

Captain America

I haven’t watch many movies lately. I’m more into TV series but Saturday night we watched this one. It was an okay movie.

TV shows I watched last week

Glee, Mad Men, King, The Good Wife.

Cross Stitching

Last week I worked on “Beauty of Asia”.

How it will look when it's finished

Knitting update

You might wonder why I don’t give you any updates. Well that’s simple: I’m not knitting very much at the moment. As soon as I restart it, the updates will come back.

Daily stuff:
As you can see I’ve got a new blog lay-out. Time for a change as this blog is changing because of a new project I’m starting but mostly because of a new attitude.

The biggest change is the title of my blog. I’ve changed it in “Dutch girl is healthy”.

I’m turning 44 next week and in the past decade I’ve tried so many diets and nothing really worked. I did manage to lose 10 kg (22 lbs) in those 10 years. I’m done with dieting but even more done with the whole weight loss thing.

All I want to do as of today is to live a happy, healthy life. I am healthy, I run and exercise 5 times a week and I love my life. Most of the times I’m very happy with the way I look. My body is stronger than it has ever been in my life. Why waist 10 more years focusing on a number on the scale, it’s all about how I feel. I haven’t reached my goal weight yet and maybe I never will but for now I’m perfectly fine with that. I will eat as healthy as possible and keep running and do my workout DVD’s.

I don’t want to get healthy anymore, I already am.

I saw Julie & Julia Thursday night and I loved this movie. Those of you who have seen it will know that Julie cooks all recipes from a cookbook from Julia within a year and blogs about it. It inspired me and made me think about a cooking project for myself. I’m still working on the details but all will revealed in my Friday’s post.

Friday night we had a wedding to go to. A friend of R. whom he knows for over 30 years got married. He’s over 50 and this is his second partner but his first marriage. The party was a traditional Dutch wedding party: music and dancing. His wife sang a Dutch song for him, translated title: I love you. It made him cry but it made me cry too. It was so sweet to see and she’s a good singer too.
But, as you know me, it wasn’t an early night. This time I was in bed at 1 am but it was worth it, it was a beautiful wedding.

Yesterday it was Mother’s Day (which, of course, you all know) and I bought chocolate at a chocolate store for both our Mom’s. It look like a bouquet but it was made of paper with chocolates in it. You can’t see it very well because of the plastic wrapping paper but it looked very pretty.

I bought 10 chocolates for us too because this shop is really expensive. But the chocolate is sooooooo good, it was worth the money. It has been in my village for almost a year and I had never been there before.

Movies I’ve seen last week

Julie & Julia

What a great feel good movie, I loved it!

TV shows I watched last week
Grey’s Anatomy, Revenge, The Mentalist, Once upon a time, Mad Men.

Knitting update
Almost done with the back of the sweater. I hope to finish it this week.

Daily stuff:
Saturday morning I had planned a run and do a part of the garden afterwards. But when I looked at the garden Friday I decided to finish the Winter cleaning up in 1 days instead of 2 days I originally planned. It started to rain a bit half way but I decided to continue and luckily it was just short. I started at 9 am and three hours later I was finished and the garden is now completely ready for Spring.

I didn’t run or workout this weekend and I have to admit that I don’t feel guilty about it and enjoyed having a weekend off from working out.

I have enjoyed the me-time this weekend but am happy R. got home this morning around 6.45 am.

Yep, still not finished 🙂

Movies I’ve seen last week

Black Swan

Not sure what to think about this movie. Sometimes I couldn’t get what was real and what wasn’t. But I couldn’t stop watching either, I wanted to know how it ended. Ballet training is hard, it can never be good for your feet in my opinion.

Anyone seen this movie and what did you think about it?

TV shows I watched last week
Grey’s Anatomy, The Big Bang Theory, Once upon a time, The Mentalist, The Walking Dead, Necessary Roughness, Revenge, 2 Broke Girls, The Good Wife, King.

Dinner

Friday
Peppers stuffed with minced meat, rice and herbs.

Saturday

Sunday
I made an omelette with mushrooms but it didn’t look pretty for a photo.

Daily stuff:

We booked our vacation yesterday. We’re flying to Florence where we will be staying for 2 days in a bed and breakfast. and go to the Springsteen concert there. After that we will pick up our rental car and drive to Umbria for a few days. We’re staying in a country house and get a pasta cooking workshop there. Next stop is Tuscany, close to Siena. Another stay in a country house and during this stay we rente a Vespa scooter and will tour with it for a day. Our last stop is Lucca, another country house. At this country house where they make wine, we have a wine tastery. After that it’s driving back to Florence and fly home. I’m looking forward to this trip, especially because of the extra’s we booked with it.

Saturday I made a start cleaning up the garden after Winter. I did only half of the garden which took me 2 hours. I cut back and trimmed plants and took away all the leaves and everything that was dead. It looked refreshing after I was finished. Going to do the other half in 2 weeks.

I always wait too long before I do something in the garden and when I start it’s a lot of work. I’m going to try to work in it every 2 weeks. I don’t really like to do the garden and won’t do it every week because of that.

R. also did his part, he cleaned the terrace.

Sunday we had an easy day. We went to a park for a walk with Bella. We took her ball with us and at one point R. accidently threw it in the water. Bella was crying but didn’t get in to get it. Suddenly a big black dog came towards us, jumped in the water, took her ball and, after his boss commanded, put the ball in front of Bella. This was so funny to see.

Movies I’ve seen last week

Twilight Breaking Dawn part 1

I think I was the last Twilight fan who hasn’t seen this movie but when it came to the cinema nobody wanted to go and I waited till it was released on DVD. I received the DVD on Friday and watched it the same night and loved it! Can’t wait for part 2 and this time I will see it in the cinema, even if I have to go alone.

TV shows I watched last week

Daily stuff:
Saturday I had an awesome run in the morning. I got up early (6.45 am) and had my run in before 8.30 am. I love to run early in the morning at the weekends too because I have the whole day ahead of me. I had to run some errands and catched up on some TV shows I recorded. The evening was a movie night at home.

Sunday was a gorgeous day. First real day of Spring, lots and lots of sunshine. People came out of their winter holes because everywhere people were running, walking or biking and lots of motorbikes on the road. We decided to go to the forest before we had to go to my mother in law for her birthday.

And as promised: my red pants, just my bottom because the pic that R. took of the whole me wasn’t sharp.

Movies I’ve seen last week
127 Hours

What would you do if your arm was stuck and you were in a desolated canyon and you didn’t tell anybody where you went? Intense movie and again I learned that it’s important to tell someone where you’re going when you go out for a run, a hike or a bike ride. Good movie!

TV shows I watched last week
The Big Bang Theory, The Walking Dead, The Good Wife, Private Practice, The Walking Dead.
