Saturday October 29, 2011: The low carb way of life

The low carb way of life:
The weekend went great. I sticked to the program with 1 exception: 2 glasses of wine on Saturday evening and 1 glass on Sunday evening. I love my wine too much to give it up. But besides the wine it went great!

On Sunday I cooked in advanced. I made a quiche of eggs with leek, bacon and onion and put pieces in the freezer for later.

I also made other crackers with wheat twaddle, rye flower, pumpkin and sunflower seeds. I had 2 for breakfast on Monday and they were very fulfilling.

Start weight on October 15th: 81 kg (178.5 lbs).
Weight on October 29nd: 79.2 kg (174.6 lbs).
Total loss: 1.8 kg (3.9 lbs).

Recap: My second week was as good as my first week. I have more energy, less IBS problems (if I have them it’s after the carb meal which is dinner), I don’t feel bloated anymore. The only thing is that working out is still a bit hard. I know I don’t need more carbs with my exercise routine (I’m not training for a marathon or even half marathon) and I guess my body is still adjusting. It will be allright, I’m positive. Not such a big weight loss as last week but that’s normal, program says a loss of 0.5 kg (1.1 lbs) is normal and I’m right on track with that.

Daily stuff:

  • Today it’s 17 years ago that R. and I moved in together. We aren’t married because we don’t really care about that. Usually we go out for dinner on our anniversary but this time we booked a hotel for 1 night. The hotel is situated near a forest and allows dogs so Bella is coming with us. Tonight we will go out for dinner and tomorrow after breakfast we will do a forest walk before driving home again

  1. Anniversary wishes to you both 🙂

  2. Happy anniversary!

That quiche sounds really fantastic! Sounds like the diet approach is working for you. Keep working with it/tweaking it and you’ll get the right formula down for you.

  3. You are doing great on the low carb, keep it up.

  4. Bella has that look of “stop taking my picture and get me out of here!!!” – I know she’s so happy to see you! Always love pictures of your sweet girl. 🙂

Sounds like the low carb diet is working for you – hurray! I wish you continued success.

I think your garden is my favorite spot – it’s just so lovely, peaceful and inviting. And now that I’ve seen your view from the living room (when you were painting it), I’m even more jealous! 😉

Happy Anniversary – hope you three have a wonderful escape!

  5. Happy Anniversary!!!

It seems like low carb is working out well for you. That is fantastic!

I want some of that quiche right now…it looks so delicious!!!

    Have a great time away!

  6. Happy Anniversary!! 😀 John and I lived together for 3 years before we got married and we probably more got married more because of our families than anything else. I kept my last name when we got married and a lot of people said “It’s just like you are still living together.” Pfffft.

Great job on the weight loss. I need to get back and focused again.

  7. Sounds like your low carb life is working out still. I tried to go a few days of low-carb and it was a challenge. I might try it a little more after the marathon (tomorrow!!). The past few days have been a total carb-fest for me though!
Happy Anniversary, Fran! 17 years is a long time. Definitely something to celebrate. You have about 10 years on when Joey and I got together.
Beautiful photos. I like the one of Bella at doggie daycare.

  8. Maybe I should take a picture outside my work window. Also not very exciting.

Good job on the weight loss.

  9. happy anniversary! have a great weekend away! And so glad to hear your eating plan is working so well for you – rock on, girl!

  10. Happy Anniversary to you are R ~ wonderful long time together…who needs the piece of paper 🙂
I love the title of ur entry…its the way I try and eat as well…more protein.
Just ordered a book called * Managing MS Naturally * by Judy Graham, I believe there is what u should and should not eat with MS, interested to see what more I have to remove from my eating plan but as you now with MS one does whatever it takes to keep your life as easy as possible.
Love your photo’s again this week…autumn is such a beautiful time of the year…enjoy it.

  11. happy anniversary Fran!

really happy the low-carb thing is working out for you! the quiche sounds delicious! do you just take a portion, heat it and eat at home? or do you eat it at work? is it dinner? breakfast? I’ve been doing a lot of eggs bulking up with veg for breakfast lately and it really seems to help my hunger (less bread for me as well).

  12. Happy Anniversary!
I was looking at your running list of races that you are doing in early 2012 and saw the 8km you are doing in Feb. That’s about 4.5 hours from here. Maybe I can convince the husband to go up to Amsterdam that weekend and then on the Sunday do that run 🙂

  13. Late to the anniversary party but I hope it was great! Love the photo of Bella, she looks so happy to see you.

  14. Congratulations on sticking with the diet and the weight loss so far. Sounds like you are really feeling good overall. Hopefully your energy level will improve soon!

  15. With regards to your comment on my blog, I’m not driving 160 km every day: I sleep there about three times a week, because I sometimes finish working late.

    Happy Anniversary again, Fran!

  16. I love your photo challenge idea!

  17. Happy Anniversary! I’m finally taking a minutes to say “hi!” I think we met thanks to Syl and Marcelle!

  18. Happy 17th Fran and R!!!!!! Love the photos Fran (glad I inspired you to take the shot from your office – love the view! The colors on the tree are lovely!) And little Bella is adorable!!!!! Congrats on the weight loss, low carb is obviously working well. Have a wonderful week!

  19. So sorry I missed this post Fran! Congrats on your loss, that is so fantastic!

I have found that the carbs don’t really effect me much yet, but I am not running huge distances …YET ;-). But like you said we are all different!

Loved the photos in this entry, it’s always nice to come here and learn something new about you 😉

  20. Happy anniversary! Your little getaway looked like so much fun. Your pictures are beautiful.

  21. Happy (be-lated) Anniversary! Being on the road all last week put me behind on reading all the exciting things going on in the blog world. So glad you guys were able to take a night for yourselves.
